Sour Cherries

High in antioxidants

Great for cobblers, crisps or pies if you want to make and roll out pie dough.  Cobblers and crisps are very easy to make!

Pit Cherries – cook 2 cups of cherries with ½ cup of water till it boils.  Add 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.  Cook and stir till thick.  Scoop into 8x8 square pan or 8in round pan.

For cobbler, stir 1 cup of flour, ¼ cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 3 tablespoons of butter, 1 egg, and 3 tablespoons of milk.  Stir just till mixed and put on top of the cherries.  The cobbler doesn’t need to cover all cherries.  Bake at 350 for about 20-30 minutes.

For crisps, stir together 1 cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of flour, 1 cup or brown sugar, ½ cup of butter.  Combine with hands into crumbs, spread on top of cherries, bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes.
